The holiday season is in full swing. In my previous post I talked about traditions you can start with your family. I left off an important meeting with the "big guy". Meeting Santa for the first time and then visiting him in subsequent years is a fun tradition for kids and parents alike. I have no problem admitting that I would happily visit Santa (without kids) and drag anyone I could get to agree to go with me.
Now that Princess C is here she is my excuse for wanting to see the man in red. But taking a six(ish) month old to see Santa can go one of two ways; GREAT or horribly wrong. She is still young enough where she doesn't full lose her mind if someone else besides my husband or I hold her but she is also getting into the stage where if I leave the room for too long she loses her mind. Handing her off to Santa could cause her to scream or she could not care less.
Meeting Santa has become more like a business meeting as locations are taking to a reservation system to try and cut down on lines. This is a great idea in my opinion. I am not ashamed (though you may think I should be) to say I have waited inline to see Santa in New York for over 2 hours. Booking an appointment can cut out some of the line and get you to see Santa quicker and it won't dull the spirit of the kids (or dad).
We didn't make a reservation to see Santa (this may be one of those do as I say, not as I do moments) but our local mall doesn't draw huge crowds and we went in the middle of the week after 6PM. We figured we would be fine and luckily, we were right!
Going to see Santa on a Tuesday at the mall in the evening had us walk right up to the lonely Santa and allowed us to take our time! We dressed up C in her Christmas dress and hubby and I were in matching blue and red plaid. We decided to hand her over to Santa and then sat for family photos first. C was great. She didn't seem to mind being held by Santa and he was great! I mean Santa has to be great with kids, no? After that, we got adventurous and left C on his lap while hubby and I walked up next to the photographer. Still no tears! She did great! The Santaland crew was very patient with us as we selected our photos and after 20 minutes (maybe less) we were done.
Santa thanked us for dressing C up. He really appreciated us taking the effort to make the pictures look nice by bringing her in a special outfit. What did she wear? Check out her outfit below!

This year meeting Santa was great, we shall see if a one year old feels the same next year!
