Since I am now a "grown up" with a child of my own, it is time I stopped relying on my parents to pay for parties I want to throw. But that also means I am finding out just how expensive it is throw parties! This Sunday we are celebrated Princess C's Baptism and this is the first "real" party I have been in full control of, both theme wise and bill wise.
Right off the bat we were faced with a choice; rent a hall and hire a caterer or have it inside a party room at a restaurant. We decided to go with the latter as I did not want to have to stick around the hall and clean up after everyone. Having the reception at a restaurant allowed for us to show up, eat and leave.
The only hiccup with having our party at a restaurant (on a Sunday after a morning mass) is that said restaurant does not normally open that early and any decorations we may want would need to be dropped off Saturday evening. This meant that flower centerpieces were a no-go unless I wanted to hire a florist to deliver them on site Sunday morning and let's face it, it isn't necessary for a Baptism to have that caliber of decor. However, this meant I was going to have to take a DIY centerpiece. DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN.
With this new task, I puzzled and puzzled 'till my puzzler was sore (too soon for a How the Grinch Stole Christmas reference?) and I finally came up with pumpkins! Big freakin' duh, right? I mean her party was on the first day of October.
However, pumpkins are orange and I did not want to have an orange themed Baptism reception. The invitations were already ordered in pink and gold, there was no turning back. Besides how chic is a pink and gold rustic themed party anyway? As always, whenever I am faced with trying to come up with a creative idea, I turned to Pinterest (queue the singing angels now) and low and behold I found pin after pin regarding pink and gold themed parties with pumpkins. In particular I was very fond of this pin, Wanting pink and gold pumpkins meant having to spray paint them and after searching around I settled on these two colors:
I'm going to be 100% honest here, I did not take on this project. I outsourced it to my father. He painted the pumpkins for me and I think he did a fantastic job. Seeing as we weren't going to paint each steam and just spray paint them, it was more of a gold top instead of a gold steam but I think it worked out nicely.
After this was out of the way I decided I wanted to put together my very first candy table, because obviously first time party means try all of the things! In keeping with the theme I ordered a variety of pink candies. If you're looking for ideas for your own candy table check out the following jars and scoop sets:

To really tie everything together I bought editable placards off of Etsy that just perfectly fit my theme! I typed out guest names for escort cards and then each type of candy for labels on the table. I printed them on cardstock at my local Staples. Even though they printed them for me, this left me with yet another first time project of mine, cutting out placards. If you couldn't tell I did NOTHING myself for my wedding, so up until now I was a "you do it for me" person instead of a "do it yourself" person so each item on this list was a first for me.
I will say I think the party was a big success. C didn't cry when the priest held her and poured water over her head, the food at the restaurant was amazing and everyone seemed to have a great time. What more can you really ask for?
