How to Throw a Birthday Party for a Dog

This week we celebrated the 5th birthday of our first born, AKA our Pit-Mix. Each year I like to make sure he knows he has a day that is all about him and a milestone birthday like 5? That deserves a party!
We invited a few friends over to the house who were more than understanding about the get together and even brought presents for our Prince. Side note, my husband totally blames me for the dog always trying to get into people's gifts because I've taught him the word "present", he knows how to nose around a gift bag and even sometimes gets the treat or toy out of it on his own. I think it's cute, he thinks it isn't necessary.

A Paw Patrol Themed Party For a Dog

Five years is a special milestone so to mark the occasion I decided to go a bit overboard (you can only imagine what my daughter is in store for) and throw him a themed party. Now what theme would work best for a 5 year old, boy, dog? PAW PATROL of course! Duh!
I raided my local party store and picked up Paw Patrol themed table cloths, napkins and plates. I even picked up one of those GIANT mylar number balloons just to really hammer in how crazy I am. While this was a party thrown in honor of a dog, it wasn't a "dog party", the food and cake were for humans.

Speaking of food. The food for the party was styled in the same way as Sandra Lee's Semi-Homemade as I purchased frozen appetizers along with a veggie and fruit platter. I made sure to get all the staples; mozzarella sticks, loaded potatoes, curly fries, meatballs plus hummus, salsa, spinach and artichoke dip. I wanted the party to feel casual, I spread the food out on our dinning room table buffet style which allowed guests to either sit and eat there or make a plate and head back into the kitchen or living room.

For dessert I purchased a dog-friendly ice cream cup for our guest of honor and baked a cake for our human guests.

So tell me, have you ever thrown a party for your pet?
