Reading to your child at any age is a great way to bond, a great way for them to learn and a great way to sit down and relax. Face it. you both need it. The type of books you read will depend on the age of your child. The smaller the child, the more dare I say lame some of the choices are. I have a 5 month old, my choices for her "reading level" are not even necessarily stories but more picture books with words labeling everything. Don't get me wrong these types of books are important for her language development but every once and a while you need to mix things up.
You can get a set of 4 of the board books from Amazon. This set includes:
Llama Llama Wakey-Wake
Llama Llama Nighty-Night
Llama Llama Hoppity-Hop
Llama Llama Zippity-Zip

All of these books are durable for little hands and rhyme so mom and dad are able to find a good flow.
I worked at a daycare a few years back, I had 12 to 18 month olds and they love, love, loved Llama Llama, Red Pajama this story may have been above their reading level and it is definitely above my 5 month old's but, fear not, the wonderful Anna Dewdney created board books for younger, shorter attention-span readers.
Oh Gerald, never has a giraffe pulled on my heart strings. Talk about a great flow! This book is a breeze to read and it tells a great story. The premise is all of the animals in the jungle put on a dance show but poor Gerald is too clumsy, or so he thinks! With a little help from a wise cricket, no, not that cricket, he is able to find his song.

This is another one that almost made me cry. Perhaps my emotions are not quite under control. This book talks about two people (or animals as the case may be) seeing the same moon, waves, sun and so on even if they aren't together. While it isn't clear who this bear is apart from it is cute and comforting to know that no matter where you are the moon sees you and everyone else you love.

Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss? This board book set is perfect for little ones and it isn't unbearable for mom and dad to read. This set includes board books of:
The Foot Book
The Tooth Book
The Eye Book
The Nose Book

I love it when books rhyme it makes it so easy to breeze through and the illustrations and bright colors will hold your infant's attention.

Any baseball fans out there? There is a series of Goodnight books that are focused around different baseball teams. Books available include:
Goodnight Yankees
Goodnight Red Sox
Goodnight Cardinals
Goodnight Cubs
Goodnight Royals

Other classics include, Goodnight Moon and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Reading to your infant is important, hopefully these books make it enjoyable for you too. Happy reading!!
