Build-A-Bear Workshop Announces New Subscription Box Service

Will I ever stop talking about subscription boxes? No. This is a subscription box blog now. Not really but I did get an email announcement I had been waiting for since I took a customer survey MONTHS ago and I'm super excited to talk about. Build-A-Bear Workshop has created Cubscription, a "totally new way to enjoy Build-A-Bear".

Build-A-Bear Workshop Introduces Cubscription

Say what?? I know! I love Build-A-Bear, I went there as a kid and I've had so much fun taking my girls. I even took part in their first ever Pay Your Age Day in 2017. Yeah, I'm that hardcore. Cubscription is a subscription service that will deliver a new "furry friend" (so one can assume it won't always be a bear) right to your door each season!

What's Inside a Cubscription Box?

Each box will include 6-8 items including your new stuffed animal, clothing and accessories for said stuffed animal and get THIS! kids clothing and accessories so your child can match his or her new friend! Clothing and accessory items could be t-shirts, pajamas, hats, pins, jewelry, keychains and more! Build-A-Bear also teases there could be stationary, towels, stickers and even more items outside of the realm of clothing and accessories.

How Does Cubscription Work?

Head to Cubscription.com and sign up. You'll have to select a shirt size; children's 4/5 through Adult Small and pick your plan. There are two types of Cubscription plans; Annual and Quarterly.

Quarterly Plan

$29.99 a box PLUS shipping and handling. You pay for each box as you go, before it ships. Can be cancelled at any time.

Annual Plan

$29.99 a box PLUS shipping and handling. You pay for the entire year upfront and you receive an additional 5th Birthday Box free of charge. Can be cancelled at any time but you will still receive your year's worth of boxes and will not get a refund.

Are The Boxes Personalized?

According to the FAQ provided on the Cubscription site when asked if the boxes were a mystery the answer is no. Every seasonal box will have the same items in it. Here is where it gets a bit confusing for me. As mentioned above the box is to include clothing and accessories, when you create an account there is no question asking if the box is for a boy or a girl. So will be boys receive jewelry in their box? Are the shirts and pajamas unisex? There is no profile at all in fact to say which furry friends your child might like most. This is where my excitement takes a paws (see what I did there?) I like the idea of a mystery box but I also like being able to provide some kind of note to kind of lead my mystery box in a particular direction. I'll be interesting to see how this service evolves.

When Will Cubscription Start Shipping?

Order now to receive the winter box. According to their website, winter boxes will ship in early December. Their shipping schedule currently is:

Spring box - ships mid April
Summer box - ships mid-late July
Fall box - ships mid-late October
Winter box - early December

If you sign up for the annual plan, your bonus birthday box will ship a month before the provided birth date in the year 2020.

Will you sign your kids up for Build-A-Bear Workshop's new subscription box? Sound off in the comments!

Hmmm that's an interesting idea. I like that it's quarterly because every month seems like it would be too much. A seasonal friend is a cute idea but I feel like you'd only really need to do it for 1 year. 2 years at most. They completely missed the mark on not having a profile with simple questions for each child's profile. But we'll see. I'll hold off for now and see how it goes over the next year.

That sounds really sweet. We got our son a Build a Bear dog for his six month birthday. I loved taking him to make it and I'm looking forward to getting him another one when he's older and can be a little more involved.

The subscription box sounds like a cute idea, especially the name!
