Reliving My "Labor day"; My Birth Story

"It's not like the movies", "It's nothing like you've seen on TV". These were both things numerous people told me in regards to my water breaking. It would not be as eventful as they make it seem, it could even happen in my sleep! Being a first time mom I had no idea what to expect, maybe I should have read that book, whoops too late now!
There I was driving from work to the Apple Store to meet my husband to look at a potential "Push Present" for me when all of a sudden, something felt odd. No big deal, I thought, I'll just beeline it for the bathroom when I get there. Well then it happened again, and then again as I was talking to an Apple Genius. My water was breaking!!!

A few days ahead of my due date my first thought was, my hospital bag isn't packed! Yes I should have packed sooner, but being that it was my first pregnancy I was convinced, even scared the baby was going to be late, not come early.

To the hospital we went! There they confirmed my water did indeed break and I would be put in a room shortly. Now my husband was tasked with going home and packing a bag for both him and I and he had to make sure to grab the cute going home outfit I bought.

I was also concerned that he would grab clothes from my pre-pregnancy drawer and I would be stuck with too tight clothes to come home in. In the end he packed perfectly!

Here's something that I didn't know could happen. Though I was initially contracting, I stopped. So that night I fell fast asleep. It wasn't until the next morning when the nurse told me the only reason I was able to sleep so soundly was because I stopped contracting but hey, at least I got in one last good night's sleep.

After some medicine to induce contractions (I could have NEVER slept through those by the way) I had pushed it as far as I could and got an epidural around noon.

At 4:15pm it was time to start pushing. A short (yeah, right) 4 hours later she was here!

Having decided to keep the sex of the baby a surprise until delivery, having my husband announce "it's a girl!" was exciting, overwhelming and surprising. Everyone had pretty much convinced me I was having a boy based on every "old wives tales" in the book.

We spent two more nights in the hospital and then they let us take her home. They haven't come back for her, so I guess she's ours to keep!
