How to Throw a Surprise Party for Someone in Their Own Home

Recently I had an interesting thing happen to me. I was given a surprise party in my house. I had no idea, I was not expecting it and quite frankly I'm pretty impressed that my family was able to pull this off. So much so that I'm sharing tips on how you too can throw a surprise party for someone, in their own home.

How To Throw A Surprise Party For Someone in Their Own Home

1. Have an Accomplice on the Inside

For me, it was my mother-in-law. She planned, long ago to spend the weekend at my house. Her trip made the perfect cover for the party since she was going to be there, she could communicate with those who were planning on attending the party.

2. Have Guests Meet Off-Site and Drive Over Together

Nothing ruins a surprise like someone being at the house too early. Have the guests plan to meet somewhere else, could be as close by as a block over. Once everyone who is attending the party is there, drive over together. This way, all of the guests arrive at once.

I'll admit, it was quite odd to see all these cars pull into my driveway at once, I thought they were all lost!

3. Bring Everything You'll Need

Don't assume the guest of honor will have something you'll need on hand. Bring EVERYTHING. My party throwers brought balloons, table cloths, cups, napkins, plates, drinks and all of the food items they wanted. One minute my dinning room table was empty, the next it had a buffet of items on it. Very impressive.

4. Do The Guest of Honor a Favor and Clean Up Afterwards

To be fair, the guest of honor was not expecting a house full of people so once the party winds down, a few of the party throwers should hang back and clean up (at least the food they brought). I had no problem taking a broom to my floors but it was very nice of my party throwers to package up any food that wasn't eaten and either put it in my refrigerator, threw it away or took it back out of the house with them.
Thinking of throwing a surprise party for someone? Why not throw it for them in their own home? Just keep in mind the size of the guest of honor's house when determining the guest list and get to planning!

My sister just gave birth to her first child, which is why I'm currently planning a surprise party for her! I agree with you that it would be best to invite those people who are dear to my sister. You've also made a pretty good point that it would be a great gesture to clean and pack everything away after the party. Well, speaking of the party, I wonder where could we find a baby stork sign that will be placed in her front yard.

It's wonderful when you shared that it is important to bring all the items that you will be needing for the event if you are planning to throw a surprise party for a friend or family member at their own place. My sister and I are planning to surprise our brother who is turning 20 next month and we are thinking of crashing his apartment when he comes home from work as it has been a while since we last meet him. I will keep in mind to make sure that everything is prepared beforehand and it would be great if I can order pizza delivery for the occasion as I know how much he fancies that food.

Thanks for these tips on throwing a surprise party. I am planning on throwing my aunt a surprise party this summer. I think it would also be nice if everybody made sure to give her a gift with the same kind of theme.

It got me when you said that we can surprise a birthday celebrant by bringing their favorite food. My husband and I want to surprise his mom for her 70th birthday next month. We are also hoping to find singing telegrams on Friday who can provide entertainment and joy to all the guests.
