DIY Closet Wrapping Station

If you're like me when it comes time to wrap birthday presents or Christmas/holiday presents you go out and buy fresh rolls of wrapping paper and bags only to find out that you had a whole stash from the previous year hidden away somewhere. Well I had enough and decided I need to get organized and give myself a proper wrapping station. The hubby didn't see the need but now that we have our daughter, I'm going to need a space that I can go to and wrap gifts in peace and hopefully store them away from spying eyes as she gets older.

To make my closet wrapping station happen, I took over one of the closets in a spare bedroom.

When it comes time to wrap, I'll use a card table (or the floor) for my surface. Everything is kept in this closet, tucked away and free from getting wrinkled, ripped or forgotten about.

All of the baskets used in this wrapping station are from the Container Store.

Step 1 : Organize Wrapping Paper Rolls

There are three pieces used here.

For the base, we hung an "elfa Hangmate Accessory Basket". Above it, to secure the wrapping paper from falling over, we got a little creative by zip-tying the "elfa Gift Wrap Organizer" to the "elfa 32 Hook Tie & Belt Rack".

The reason for the zip ties is that the gift wrap organizer does not come with spaces for screws to screw into the wall but the Tie & Belt Rack does.

Step 2: Organize Gift Bags

On the back wall of the closet, underneath the clothing rack we hung two of the "efla Accessory File" to house my gift bags.

As I was sorting through my gift bags I noticed I had four very distinct categories; Christmas, Birthday, Baby Shower, Any Occassion.

Hanging multiple racks allowed me to separate out these categories.

Step 3: Organize Boxes and Other Supplies

The plus to using a closet was that there was already a shelf! This is where I'm any stacking gift boxes, tissue paper, tags and wrapping supplies; scissors, rolls of tape and ribbon.

What a great idea! My stuff usually ends up in the crawlspace making it that much harder to access. I typically end up buying new stuff when there's an unexpected birthday just to avoid the obstacles and climbing down there.

Same! I always ended up with bent bags and half used rolls because I would buy new whenever I needed them. Now I'm actually looking forward to needing to wrap presents this year!
