When you become a parent there are lots of things that you expect will happen and then you get hammered with a bunch of things you'd never expect to happen. One of those being, my 1 year old LOVES hard boiled eggs. Like, is this normal? As the hubby likes to say, "eggs are her favorite fruit" and since we've been hard boiling so many eggs I've decided to share the one major tip for how to get those hard boiled eggs peeled quickly and painlessly.

The One Tip You Need For Easy to Peel, Hard Boiled Eggs

I should be honest and say this isn't my tip but actually my mother's. We don't have a lot of "family recipes" to pass down from generation to generation but we do have easy to peel, hard boiled eggs. So, I will gladly spread the word and if I save one person some time and energy when it comes to peeling eggs than my job here is done.

There is one tip that is often shared when discussing easy to peel, hard boiled eggs and while this is NOT my mother's tip I will share with you here as I do think a combo of these two tips are needed.

Give the eggs an ice water bath after boiling

Once your eggs have cooked for the proper amount of time, remove them from the pot and place them into a bowl that is ready and waiting with lots of ice and cold water.

Again, this is nothing new but if you're like me, you've done this every time you've hard boiled eggs and still the eggs weren't easy to peel. This is where my mother comes in, her tip for easy to peel hard boiled eggs is....

Boil the water before you put the eggs in the pot and then boil again once they are in the pot.

Say whaaaaaaat? I know, it sounds odd and I'll admit it does add time to the over all process but I'm telling you, ever since we started double boiling the water our hard boiled eggs have been easy to peel.

So what does this mean? Instead of putting your eggs in the pot and covering them with water and then bringing it to a boil, fill your pot with water and boil it first without the eggs.

Once the water is boiling add your eggs and bring it back to a boil.

How to Hard Boil Eggs

Step 1 - Boil water without eggs
Step 2 - Add eggs to water and set timer for 13 minutes
Step 3 - Bring water back to a boil with eggs
Step 4 - Lower heat (but don't remove completely) for remainder of the timer
Step 5 - Remove eggs from pot and place them into a bowl filled with ice water

There you have it folks, the one tip you need to get easy to peel, hard boiled eggs. Enjoy!
