Toddler Classroom Bulletin Board Ideas

In a previous life I worked at a daycare while I was in college. I started off as an assistant in the toddler classroom and then became the lead. The best way to showcase the activities our kids were partaking in throughout their time in my class was through bulletin board displays. I loved creating themed boards to match the time of year and was known throughout the facility as the teacher who was constantly changing out her boards!

Fall Board Idea: Football Jerseys

At the daycare nap time meant two things; break time and craft time for "Miss Kristen". When my assistant was on break I was cutting out artwork into recognizable shapes. I found it was easier to have them paint all over a page (either with fingers or a brush) and then I could cut the paper into the shape I need. In this case, football jerseys!
The colors you use will depend on the teams that are local to you; as you can see blue and gang green were the local fare for me.

Supplies: White construction paper, two colors of paint and scissors.

Winter Board Idea: Fireplace & Stockings

Winter = Christmas, pretty obvious and cliché, I know. But! I really wanted to create a cozy scene and what's cozier than a fireplace? Each child painted with red paint and then I gave them cotton balls to stick to the top of their stockings (it got as messy as you'd imagine). After the paint was dry we wrote the kids name in glue and sprinkled silver glitter over it.

Spring Board Idea: Baseball

I'll admit it, this was crazy. I hand drew all of the stadium signs and then I printed out an overhead crowd shot (multiple times over) and glued them to construction paper to create the "bleacher" section of a baseball field.

What did the kids do? They painted all over two pieces of paper and then I cut them out into baseball gloves and bats.
Supplies: White construction paper, brown paint, scissors and masking tape (for baseball bats).

Summer Board Idea: Under the Sea

This scene is three crafts in one! To make the jellyfish the class painted styrofoam bowls and attached colored streamers.

To make the coral, I spread glue over different colors of construction paper and they placed Cheerios on it.

To make the fish, I used contact paper and had the kids place cut up pieces of tissue paper.

Summer Board Idea: Boats

Confession: When I created bulletin boards I liked to incorporate song lyrics into my titles as often as I could hence the "Come Sail Away" you see here.

Simple idea, the toddlers painted on half pieces of paper plates and to create the boats I attached a triangle that I cut out to a popsicle stick.

Supplies: Paper plates, scissors, popsicle stick, colored construction paper and glue.

I worked in a preschool for 13 years and the displays were my domain too. I used to enjoy it.
