Ya gotta cowboy up!
Set in the west, the visuals here are very vibrant with lots of orange. The only thing that was a bit unsettling for me was how yellow the teeth were for every character from the west. You can't miss the corn kernels in their mouth no matter how hard you try to avoid looking directly at them (gross!) I appreciate a good country song and Cowboy Up has some gems! In a new twist, the storyline for this direct-to-home-release movie doesn't pit Tom and Jerry against each other. Instead, they are working together to ward off some other felines! I have to say it is refreshing to see the pair work together for a change! Related: Scooby Doo! The Sword and the Scoob Review Don't worry though, there are still plenty of chase scenes and the typical "Tom and Jerry" slapstick injuries that will get lots of laughs from kids. The storyline might have too many layers for younger children to fully understand. But on the surface level, Tom is trying to help Jerry and his nephews ward off a group of cats who have been hired to banish the mice from the ranch. This will be enough to keep kids engaged for the roughly 70 minute runtime. On a deeper level though, there is a family dynamic that sees our city slicker and our ranchers struggle over if they should keep the family ranch or cut their losses, move on and sell to the less-than honest business man. My favorite line of the movie comes during a scene when our city slicker muses how surprised he is that "the WB could look this good again" and is met with the response of, "Almost like when we were kids". Tom and Jerry Cowboy Up! has a classic Tom and Jerry feel, even if Tom isn't the one after Jerry this time! Tom and Jerry Cowboy Up! | Trailer
