Are you planning a sailing on Disney Cruise Line? Already packing your bags? Don't forget your fish extender. If it is your first time you're probably saying, "whhaaat?" and that's okay, I'm here to help. I'll explain what a fish extender is (the name is actually pretty on the nose for what it is worth) and give you some ideas on what to bring onboard with you, if you decide to take part in the extra on-board activity.

Guide to Disney Cruise Line Fish Extenders
To get started on our exploration of Fish Extenders, I am going to answer the four questions you probably already have rolling around in your mind!
Why is it Called a Fish Extender?
Well, as I said it is pretty on the nose. Every room has a fish on their number plaque and so a fish extender is long plastic or cloth accessory organizer type item that hangs off the fish on your number plaque. Extending it - if you will.
What Do You Put in a Fish Extender?
Taking part in the fish extender game is like taking part in a Secret Santa. You get gifts in the pockets of your organizer and you also put gifts in the organizers of others. Think small trinkets like nail polish, hair scrunchies, and hand sanitizer - more recommendations are below :-)
Does Everyone Do This?
No. Not everyone on the ship will partake in the fish extender item trade.
How Do You Find Out Who is Doing It?
That's a great question, thanks for asking ;-)
Once you are all booked for your Disney Cruise Line, you'll head over to Facebook and search your ship name and your dates and I am almost certain you will find a group for your specific sailing. Inside the group is where fish extender groups will form. Disney Cruise Line Fish Extenders
You can find highly customized fish extender hangers on Etsy, or can find less customized (and less expensive) ones on Amazon. These few I found are just to give you an idea of the kind of organizer you'll be looking for to use as your Fish Extender.
You get the idea right? It is narrow, usually has 3 or 4 pockets and is typically made of cloth.
Over on Etsy you'll be able to get characters, your family member's names and so forth on your Fish Extender but these options work just as well too! Thinking of taking your family on a Disney Cruise? The gifts you give are up to you, I'm not sure if the groups set a dollar amount to be mindful or not, that may be an idea you want to float out to your group and sea (I mean see). For the most part though it is understood that the gifts aren't meant to be expensive, it is just meant to be fun.
You can hand out your gifts in different ways, perhaps you want to give a gift a day to the other families participating or perhaps you want to put together a goodie bag of items and bestow it on them all at once. It is up to you to decide. Maybe your sailing has a Pirates Night and you want to theme your gifts off of that - go for it! Maybe it is a Halloween or Christmas sailing so you want to incorporate holiday items - do it!

Britni over at PlayPartyPlan.com is the Queen (in my opinion) of Fish Extender gifts. She really put a lot of effort into her gifts and it makes me wish I was onboard to get one of her goodie bags!
