I'm very impressed with Osmo Detective Agency. I think the "briefcase" that holds the maps and magnifying glass is a very clever design that adds that extra touch to setting the scene for playing the game.
I like that the maps are from around the world but my favorite map might be the fictional "Osmo Town". The one thing that I think is a bit unusual is the characters in the game do not speak a language that children can understand. They sort of mumble and grumble sounds that are not truly words, this language is called "Osmolian". There is however, a narrator that speaks very clearly and will read off fun facts about the area throughout gameplay - which I think is fun! Osmo Detective Agency offers different levels of game play which can be changed at any time via the settings in the game app. If children get stuck trying to find a person or item on the map there is a hint button which shows which portion of the 3 section map it can be found on. This game is highly interactive and I love how the Osmo technology picks up what the children are seeking on the map with the magnifying glasses; the only tricky thing is that the maps have three sections and the reflector only picks up the portion of the map that is directly under the reflector - so children need to move the map left or right to center the correct portion. A minor thing but I did find myself having to remind my daughter to slide the map over a bit so that the game could pick up on the fact that she found the clue. There is certainly a sense of accomplishment with each mystery solved and I love how excited my daughter got when she found the clues! Osmo Detective Agency is a great game that teaches geography, facts about famous landmarks and cities and helps children develop observation skills and enforces the importance of attention to detail.
