Movie nights are always a great excuse to get creative and have a little fun with theming either by way of printable activity sheets, decorations or food. I'm not usually one to try out a bunch of DIY projects or get super crafty, but every once and a while I get an idea in my head that I just have to try. When you think about Poppy, Branch, Guy Diamond, what is one thing that comes to your mind? Their hair! I had some extra cotton candy in the house left-over from Easter and I had recently bought ice cream cones for make your own sundaes when a light bulb went off.

About Trolls

Dreamworks Trolls centers around the ever-positive Poppy and overly-cautious Branch as they go on a quest to save their friends from the Bergens. It has a star-studded cast; Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, James Corden, and Gwen Stefani (just to name a few). The soundtrack is just as fun as the movie thanks to the Oscar nominated song, "Can't Stop the Feeling" and other fun ones like "Hair Up". Speaking of hair...

How to Make a Poppy Ice Cream Cone

I wanted to make a themed item for our Trolls movie night and when I saw the package of cotton candy on the counter it hit me. I could make a Poppy-inspired ice cream cone out of this sweet and fluffy (kind of like Poppy) cotton candy!

Poppy Ice Cream Cone: Assembly

Step 1

Cover the ice cream cone with cotton candy.

This was not as easy as I had originally thought in my mind. Perhaps it was because my cotton candy was on the older side but it wasn't pulling into long strands like I originally thought it would, instead it stayed in clumps.

This still worked out well, it just required a little more patchwork to make sure the entire cone was covered.

Note: Your hands WILL get sticky.

Step 2

Create Poppy's headband.

Once I had the cone covered I felt like it was missing something. Whenever you see a picture of Poppy she always has on a flowery headband. To create this on the cotton candy covered cone is simple.

Take your cone and put it down so that the opening (where the ice cream usually goes) is on the plate. You'll be using the cone like a hat to your ice cream in a bowl later.

Spread out white icing in a line across the side of the cone you have deemed the "front".

Place the line of icing near the "bottom" (it is actually the top so however you want to think of it) leaving some of the cotton candy below it to portray Poppy's bangs.

Embellish the white icing headband with some blue sprinkles to create the flowers.

If you're really on top of your game you can spoon out some icing and mix it with green food coloring to make Poppy's headband green.

Step 3

Scoop out your ice cream into bowls and place your Poppy cone on top.

Think back to when you were a kid and Friendly's had the clown ice cream sundaes, it's the same concept.

Now you're ready to enjoy a Trolls themed treat while viewing Trolls (or Trolls World Tour).

Tip: Do not make these wrapped cones too far in advanced, the cotton candy will harden and become more difficult to eat. If you're planning on watching the movie at 8, these cones can be made about 30 minutes prior to show time but no more than 1 hour ahead of when you'd actually like to eat them.
