As parents we want our children to make good choices but at times we may not have all of the right words to use in order to convey what we are trying to each. That's why I absolutely love the "Magic of Me" series by author, Becky Cummings. Her brightly illustrated picture books and wonderfully worded rhymes make teaching our children about choices and consequences easy to understand and fun!

The first installment in the "Magic of Me" series teaches children that their words have meaning and the importance of positive affirmations. The thing I love about Becky Cummings' "The Magic of Me" series is how in both books each page starts off with a first person affirmation, "I choose to be calm!", "I choose to be patient!" and then goes into the second person describing what it means to be calm or patient or forgiving.
That "I" really drills home the point that the child is in charge. "I choose", these are choices I AM making and this is something is in MY control. Related: What Should Darla Do? Children's Book Review It is no secret that I am a fan of rhyming stories; I like the flow it creates when a book rhymes and if I'm being completely honest, I like how fast I can get through book when it rhymes - especially when I am reading book after book (after book) to my children during story time. I also believe rhyming stories keep younger children engaged more than non-rhyming stories. The rhyming scheme in Becky Cummings' "The Magic of Me" series just makes these stories all the more fun to read. ​ I also love the illustrations. They are brightly colored, they feature diverse characters and animal friends - my daughters love to point out the cat (who is sometimes grumpy) each time we read these stories. The Magic of Me: My Magical Choices is a fun, easy to read, easy to understand children's book that makes for a great conversation starter about the choices we make and I highly, highly recommend parents, caregivers, teachers, aunts & uncles and nannies check out this book and this series as a whole.
