Gobble Gobble Mr Wobble Book Review

I love holidays! I really enjoy building excitement towards a holiday by having themed activities, going to themed events, watching themed television shows and reading themed books! Thanksgiving is nearly here and is often  (in my opinion) a pretty looked-over holiday. We get excited for Halloween and then jump right to Christmas prep, but I believe Thanksgiving also needs some excitement and that's why I was so happy to see that Becky Cummings has written an adorable Thanksgiving story about Wobble the turkey.

Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble: About the Book

Title: Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble
Written By: Becky Cummings
Illustrated By: Zuzana Svobodova

Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble is a Thanksgiving tale with a TWIST.

Wobble the turkey is happy to hear he is invited to the farmer's Thanksgiving feast but the other animals are sure they know what that means (or do they?)

"Thursday was Thanksgiving.
The barn mouse kept trying to make
Wobble take a walk outside, but
he would not go. He could not be late for dinner."

Readers follow Wobble the week of Thanksgiving as he prepares himself for the big day; he plucks out stray feathers, spoofs up his hair a bit - he is beyond excited!

We also watch the other farm animals try and hatch a plan to free Wobble from the farm before Thursday.

But will everyone be in for a surprise come Thanksgiving Day?

Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble: My Thoughts

Gobble Gobble Mr Wobble page preview
This story is a wildly fun ride!

There are some ups and downs (on one page we see Farmer Joe with ax in hand) that as a parent, reading this to my younger children, I started to get a little worried about where Wobble's journey was going to take us.

Fear not! Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble has a happy ending for everyone and illustrates the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

Speaking of illustrations, the animals in Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble are absolutely adorable!

I loved all of the attention to detail in the illustrations, especially in the background - as you read through be sure to look at the little barn mice as they think of a scheme to break Wobble free from the farm.

This story does not rhyme and some pages are more text-heavy than others, but Gobble Gobble Mr. Wobble is still a quick and easy read that is sure to keep preschoolers engaged.

Bonus! In the back of the book there are two recipes; one for lasagna and one for a veggie platter that is in the shape of a turkey!
